Two inseparable friends, Butch (a former butcher, hence the name) Cassidy (Paul Newman) and Sundance Kid (Robert Redford), lead the Bunch of the Hole in the Wall and live on robbing trains and banks. When they are hunted around the country, they decide to go to Bolivia and together with Etta (Katharine Ross), Sundance's girlfriend, they head to South America.
